Is your hair “fried” from highlights, flat irons, cheap shampoo, over brushing, life in general? Here’s why ya gotta love science.
This new technology, born in the lab and delivered to your hair in our salon, is the solution to all these problems and more. And we have it here at Zanya Spa Salon.
What Is This, and Who Should I Thank?
Thank two of the world’s leading PhDs in Materials and Chemistry, Dr. Eric Pressly and Dr. Craig Hawker. These two men had never worked in the hair industry before, so they brought a whole new, fresh perspective to the challenges colorists and stylists face every day – delivering desired results while maintaining hair’s integrity. They have created a single ingredient that can rebuild broken chemical bonds in the hair; literally building the strength back into hair that has been lost due to chemicals (haircolor, lighteners, relaxers, keratin smoothers) and heat (blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons) and general mechanical abuse (brushing wet hair).
But it sounds so science-y!
That’s because it is! A quick and easy chemistry lesson for you: There are three types of chemical bonds in your hair. Hydrogen bonds are weak, and are broken by heat and water. Salt bonds are a bit stronger, and broken by acid or alkaline solutions like haircolor and perms. Finally, disulfide bonds, the strongest bonds, are broken by Japanese relaxers and the like. Previously, once disulfide bonds were broken, they could never be “reconnected”, until now. All three bonds get broken over time, to varying degrees, depending on the natural strength of your hair and all the environmental factors that you come in contact with.
Olaplex rebuilds the disulfide bonds in your hair, therefore strengthening your hair at the molecular level. Literally. Think of the implications…
What Can This Do For Me?
Olaplex will allow you to better maintain the integrity and health of your hair while still receive the same service at the salon that, let’s face it, damage your hair. A whole lot of what is done in the salon is basically controlled damage, right? Haircolor, highlights, perms and keratin, even heat styling. All damaging to some extent. This potential damage can be extremely limiting as far as how far your colorist is willing to lift your hair, let’s say. But with Olaplex on board, your colorist can literally rebuild your hair at the same time as your color service, leaving your hair actually less damaged that it was when you walked in!
You can have Olaplex as a standalone treatment before color or retexturizing like a keratin treatment to rebuild strength, shine and suppleness, or you can have it added into your color service to deliver the same results.
Sounds Too Good To Be True?
Well, we are conditioned to think that from past disappointments, like “band-aid solutions that fix problems temporarily. This is different. This is science. It’s not a temporary fix that will wash out in a week. The repairing done by Olaplex is long-lasting and ongoing in that you can continue to rebuild bonds in your hair with repeated uses. You’ll just have to try it to believe it.
